Hello, Monstera lovers! Today, I want to share a little story about how I clean the leaves of my Monstera plant.

Cleaning your Monstera’s leaves is important for its health and appearance. Over time, dust and dirt can accumulate, blocking light and hindering photosynthesis.

So, here’s my simple and effective routine to keep my Monstera leaves shiny and happy.

how I clean my monstera leaves

1. Gather Your Supplies

Before I start, I make sure I have all the necessary supplies. For this task, I need:

  • A soft cloth or sponge
  • A bowl of lukewarm water
  • Mild liquid soap
  • A spray bottle
  • Cotton swabs
  • A towel

Having everything ready makes the process smooth and easy.

2. Find a Good Spot

I usually clean my Monstera in the kitchen or bathroom, where I can handle a little mess. The spot should be well-lit so you can see any dirt or dust on the leaves.

I also make sure the area is warm enough so my Monstera doesn’t get a chill.

3. Dust Off the Leaves

First, I gently dust off the leaves using a dry, soft cloth. I start from the top of the plant and work my way down. This removes the loose dust and dirt.

If the leaves are very dusty, I might use a soft brush instead. Be gentle to avoid damaging the leaves.

4. Prepare the Cleaning Solution

Next, I prepare a cleaning solution. I fill a bowl with lukewarm water and add a few drops of mild liquid soap.

It’s important not to use too much soap, as it can leave a residue on the leaves. I mix the solution well until it’s nice and soapy.

5. Clean the Leaves

Now, it’s time to clean the leaves. I dip a soft cloth or sponge into the soapy water and wring it out well.

Then, I gently wipe each leaf, supporting the leaf with one hand while I clean it with the other. I make sure to clean both the top and bottom of each leaf.

If I find any stubborn spots, I use a cotton swab dipped in the solution to clean them.

6. Rinse the Leaves

After cleaning the leaves with the soapy water, I need to rinse them to remove any soap residue.

I fill a spray bottle with clean, lukewarm water and spray the leaves thoroughly. I make sure to spray both the top and bottom of each leaf.

Then, I wipe the leaves with a clean, damp cloth to remove any remaining soap.

7. Dry the Leaves

Finally, I dry the leaves. I use a soft towel to gently pat the leaves dry. It’s important not to leave water droplets on the leaves, as they can cause water spots or attract pests.

I also let the plant air dry in a warm, bright spot before putting it back in its usual place.

Once I’ve finished cleaning, my Monstera looks fresh and vibrant. The leaves are shiny and free of dust, which helps the plant absorb more light and stay healthy.

It’s always satisfying to see the difference a good cleaning makes.

Regular Maintenance

To keep my Monstera looking its best, I make cleaning the leaves a regular part of my plant care routine.

I usually do this once a month, or more often if I notice the leaves getting dusty.

Regular cleaning helps prevent pests and keeps the plant healthy and beautiful.

Cleaning Monstera leaves is a simple but important task. It helps the plant thrive and look its best. With these seven easy steps, you can keep your Monstera leaves clean and shiny.
